The Omega Speedmaster 2998-61 is more than just a vintage watch; it represents the definitive bridge between the Speedmaster’s origins as a racing tool and its destiny as an astronomical icon. Released between 1961 and 1962, it was part of the second generation of Speedmasters that refined the "straight-lug" design before the introduction of the modern 42mm "Professional" case. This specific sub-reference moved away from the "Broad Arrow" hands of the original 1957 model, establishing the Alpha-style hands and the symmetrical 39.7mm case that collectors now consider the "purist" Speedmaster silhouette.
