The story

Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date established the combination of a date window and the day written in full as the signature of Rolex’s flagship precious-metal calendar watch. Often called “the president’s watch”, it balances a distinctive calendar display with traditional proportions. The ref. 118239A is powered by the automatic calibre 3155, whose double-quickset mechanism allows the day and date to be corrected independently. This 2004 example pairs a 36 mm 18K white-gold case and fluted bezel with a rare Blue Ombré “Vignette” dial with diamonds. The graduated blue gives the dial depth, while the diamonds and bezel catch the light in small, measured accents. A blue alligator leather strap continues the colour across the wrist, offering a different expression from the familiar bracelet-equipped Day-Date. Presented in very good condition, it retains the classic style and quiet sophistication that define the model.
