The story

TAG Heuer’s Monaco Sixty Nine ref. CW9110-0 bridges the classic past and a high-tech future. A mechanically unusual, neo-vintage cult classic, it reflects early-2000s experimental luxury design before the brand’s return to heritage-focused re-editions. Winner of the 2004 GPHG Best Design award, its reversible flip case sits on a pivoting chassis. The time-only analogue face uses the manually wound TAG Heuer Caliber 2, based on the ultra-thin ETA/Peseux 7001, with a 42-hour reserve. Behind the inverted LCD’s black background and digital numerals, the Microtimer-derived Caliber HR03 quartz movement offers a 1/1,000th-second chronograph, F1-style lap timer with 10-lap best-lap memory, perpetual calendar, dual time zones, alarm and backlight. This 2001 example pairs a 41 mm steel case with a leather strap and is presented in Very Good condition. Its matte black square analogue dial has silver stick hour markers and small seconds at six o’clock: a restrained face for such an unconventional mechanism. Accompanied by its papers, it suits a collector drawn to experimental watchmaking or a wearer who enjoys interacting with a watch.
